It’s nearly June and Jalen Ramsey is still a cornerback for the Miami Dolphins. Despite trade rumors swirling around and offers reportedly being considered, the 7 time pro bowler is still in Miami. Striking a deal to find Ramsey a new home is no simple task. The former Jaguar turned Ram is no longer in his twenties. Still GM Chris Grier is openly and actively shopping the star. And this all begs the question of who will play cornerback for the Dolphins this fall?
Jalen Ramsey

The simple answer is Miami cannot find a home for Ramsey for reportedly the same reason they have him on the trade block to begin with. His contract just is too rich. His deal has been an obstacle to any moves so far. But if no one is willing to take it on, and Miami refuses to eat part of it to facilitate a swap he could end up staying put. The tone from the front office makes it sound unlikely, but when teams wait to end to make moves, sometimes they fail to materialize. Staying is also a great outcome for the defense. Ramsey showed last season there is still plenty of gas left in the tank.
Asante Samuel Jr

From one Florida State cornerback to another. Samuel Jr could be a younger and more affordable option for the Dolphins to consider. Miami reportedly has interest in the former Charger and it makes sense why. He put together respectable performances each season until a shoulder injury sidelined him for most of last year. The injury may be an issue, but it’s not like Ramsey had a perfectly clean bill of health either. The 25 year old has the upside and youth to be a long term option in Miami.
Stephon Gilmore

Going from a fresh set of legs to the 13 year vet. The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year is still getting it done. He’s played for a different team each year of this decade and put together respectable seasons with all of them. If Miami wants a proven performer to provide a stopgap option for the year, Gilmore is about as safe as it gets. He’s played no fewer than 15 games each year since 2022. This 5 time Pro Bowler has hardly shown his age at all.
Damon Arnette

It’s been 3 years since the 19th overall pick of the 2020 class was on an NFL roster and 4 since he last saw the field. But since a string of serious legal troubles derailed his career the first time, he has found new life in the UFL this spring. The former Ohio State Buckeye has gotten renewed interest after notching 5 pass breakups and a pick six as a Houston Roughneck. Arnette spent a brief stint on Miami’s practice squad in 2021, and at the very least his spring ball play has opened up a discussion. The Dolphins might want a safer option, but the potential is clearly there.
