Aaron Rodgers finally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after what felt like years of waiting. With Rodgers definitely starting for the team the question becomes, what can he do? Going onto his 21st season in the league and being 41 years old, it’s hard to think he’ll be a top 15 QB. At the same time fans of the Steelers are able to get excited because the alternative option is a low tier Mason Rudolph. That all being said, it’s up for debate whether or not Aaron Rodgers’ stop in the steel city can actually expect a successful season in 2025.
Off Of The Field Attention

As an outspoken guy, being a frequent guest on the Pat McAfee Show, his life is in the spotlight. He seems to love the attention he gets outside of the game, and it can rub people the wrong way. Rodgers being a veteran may feel like he’s above the team in some sort of way, like on the Jets. Due to Aaron the Jets signed a bunch of his former teammates that didn’t really fit the team. It was clear that behind the scenes in New York he had some sort of say it what happened. Whether that was getting his aging teammates long-term deals or it being rumored he was the reason Salah was fired. I think the off the field antics could be something that really gets the Steelers in trouble this season.
Age And Injury Concerns

As said before, Aaron Rodgers is a 41 year QB who hasn’t looked the same since tearing his ACL. Last year was his first season coming off of that injury and it showed. Even just through the eye test you could tell that Rodgers lost any mobility he had left. He didn’t end up missing a game though, which is good after coming off of a serious injury. It’s obvious that the Steelers are Aaron’s last if not second to last stop before retirement. His days as the number 1 QB in the league are over, and his 4 time MVP caliber play isn’t returning to him. Rodgers’ arm just doesn’t have it anymore with his break sack ability being hindered by the ACL tear. The body just simply can’t keep up with the mind.
Bringing In A Veteran Presence

Just like in 2024, the Steelers have a veteran presence leading their locker room. I’d argue that Aaron Rodgers not only brings in his Super Bowl experience, but also is better than Russell Wilson. The leadership he can provide to the young weapons on offense is impactful. Aaron has had success at the highest level of the NFL. Winning a Super Bowl and 4 MVPs, which cements him as one of the best QBs of all time. That kind of knowledge is paralleled by nearly nobody in the league. Pittsburgh’s young offensive line will benefit the most from Rodgers’ stay. Rodgers can and will talk to these players and give them wisdom they can carry with them into the season. After all Rodgers is a very outspoken guy.
The QB Play Is Not Bad

It’s widely known that the 2024 Jets massively disappointed and were a trainwreck. That’s not on the fault of Rodgers though. As in 2024 he threw for 3,897 yards coupled with 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. This is a guy that at age 40 almost had a 4,00 yard season with a completion percentage of 63%. Aaron shouldn’t be the scapegoat for a Jets team that had poor protection and a coaching mess mid-season. When under center for Pittsburgh, it should be expected that he will do his job. Rodgers doesn’t need to carry a team on his back and win games by forcing the ball down field. Instead the Quarterback can lead his team and rely on the stellar defense to win the team games. It’s a situation that you’d want any older QB in.
