Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, there has been a multitude of rumors, smokescreens, and flat out lies about who teams want to draft as well as who the consensus top draft picks are. So the question is, what are the things that we truly know in relation to the draft? Draft day is around the corner, and so let’s look at 5 things that we should look out for in the upcoming NFL Draft.

#1-Expect Quarterbacks To Be Taken Earlier Than Expected

The most important thing to look out for in the NFL Draft this year is where the top quarterbacks will go, and how many go in the first round. At present, the main quarterbacks to look out for are as follows:

  • Cam Ward, Miami
  • Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
  • Jalen Milroe, Alabama
  • Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss

We almost know for certain that QB Cam Ward is headed to the Tennessee Titans, who currently hold the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. However, the three other potential first round prospects are the problem, as it is widely speculated as to where they might go. This is in part due to the perceived fall off of talent after Ward.

However, despite this perceived lack of talent in the overall QB class, there is a real chance that the other three QBs also go in the first round. Sanders is seen as a project that could start early in the upcoming season, and thus could get the starting nod fairly early on. As for Milroe and Dart, both are seen as true developmental prospects. They would have to wait till late in the season if not a whole year before they would be ready for pro competition, either due to a different style of offense compared to college(Dart), or lack of refinement in how they play the overall position(Milroe). However, the upside is immense in both quarterbacks, and could tempt a team to pick them in the first round.

#2-Expect A Run On Wide Receivers In Rounds 2 and 3 Of The Draft

As reported by Adam Schefter on ESPN, there is expected to be a rush to grab Wide Receivers in the second and third round of the draft. This is based on what he is hearing as an NFL Insider, as well as what happened last year, when there was a substantial rush to grab receivers in those two rounds.

This is not the only major run on a position that could happen in the draft, but it is the most likely, so watch out to see if teams in need of a receiver jump to grab their guy in the second or third.

#3-Don’t Be Surprised At How Many Defensive Lineman Are Drafted Late In The Draft

In the 2025 NFL Draft, the deepest position group to draft is the defensive line. Throughout the draft, there is expected to be a surplus of good to great NFL ready D-Lineman. Due to this surplus, expect a large amount of picks spent overall from the first round all the way through the seventh round of the draft.

#4-Watch Out For Daniel Jeremiah’s Mock Draft

The final thing to watch out for is Daniel Jeremiah’s Mock Draft, which comes out the night before the draft. As of writing, the full mock draft has come out and is a huge indicator of what will happen. Jeremiah is another well connected NFL Insider who tends to be very plugged in when it comes to the draft, and is often similar to what will more than likely happen come draft night.

Overall, it will be interesting to see what exactly happens as the 2025 NFL Draft looms closer, and if there will be any draft day surprises as there has been in the past couple years. The NFL Draft starts at 7 PM Central/8 PM Eastern time on ESPN, ABC, and the NFL Network on April 23rd.
