Before Dallas Cowboys fans had even processed the pick, first-round selection Tyler Booker had already delivered the most memorable line of the entire 2025 NFL Draft. “I just love the aggressiveness and the tenacity of the game of football. It’s legal assault out there. I make guys not love football anymore,” Booker said at the NFL Combine. The Cowboys backed that mentality with the largest commitment in their 2025 draft class: a $13 million signing bonus that signals serious belief in the Alabama guard.

Selected 12th overall, Booker signed a four-year rookie contract worth $22.55 million in total value, with that $13 million signing bonus leading all 2025 Cowboys draft picks. His 2025 salary cap hit checks in at approximately $4.1 million, manageable by any standard for a top-15 selection. Dallas is betting that the physical, Alabama-trained guard can anchor an offensive line that struggled through injuries during a disappointing 7-10 season in 2024, a concern that carried into 2025, when the Cowboys finished 7-9-1 and allowed a franchise-record 511 points, the worst scoring defense in the NFL that season.

A Class Worth Over $65 Million Total

The Cowboys drafted nine players in 2025, collectively signing contracts with a combined total value of more than $65 million. That figure spans four-year deals for each player, from Booker’s $22.55 million deal down to seventh-round selections worth approximately $4.3 million apiece. The total financial commitment represents one of the more aggressive draft investment postures Dallas has made in recent memory, with the Jones family clearly prioritizing infrastructure over individual star additions.

Why the Cap Hit Is Surprisingly Small

Despite the massive total contract values, the entire 2025 rookie class costs Dallas roughly $4 to $5 million against the active 2025 salary cap. This is due to the NFL’s Top 51 accounting rule, where only the 51 highest cap charges count during the offseason period. Each incoming rookie essentially replaces a lower-paid player on that list, meaning the net cap impact is only the difference between the rookie’s number and the player he displaces, not the full contract figure.

Ezeiruaku Adds Edge Pressure

With the 44th overall pick, Dallas selected EDGE rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku, signing him to a four-year deal worth $10.15 million that includes a $4 million signing bonus. Ezeiruaku brings pass-rush potential to a defensive front that needs to generate consistent pressure in the NFC East, where opponents consistently deploy powerful offensive lines. His $1.67 million 2025 cap hit gives the Cowboys significant edge presence at a fraction of what a veteran free-agent addition would cost in the current market.

Third-round cornerback Shavon Revel, the 76th overall pick, signed a $6.51 million deal with a $1.37 million signing bonus and a $1.18 million 2025 cap charge. In the fifth round, running back Jaydon Blue (pick 149) brings explosive playmaking ability out of the backfield on a $4.63 million deal. Will McClay, Dallas’ VP of Player Personnel, has highlighted Blue as an explosive playmaker who can flip the field, and praised his potential to create mismatches against linebackers in coverage.

Day Three Depth Across the Trenches

The Cowboys rounded out their class with linebacker Shemar James (pick 152), offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius (pick 204), and defensive tackles Jay Toia (pick 217) and Tommy Akingbesote (pick 247), along with running back Phil Mafah (pick 239). Each player signed a deal between $4.3 million and $4.63 million in total value, with signing bonuses ranging from $103,000 to $423,000. The depth-focused selections reinforce both the offensive and defensive lines, areas Jerry Jones specifically identified as priorities following 2024’s injury-plagued campaign.

Building a Dominant Offensive Line

Cowboys COO Stephen Jones made no secret of the philosophy behind this draft class, pointing to the offensive line as the foundation of the team’s rebuild and flagging the NFC East’s powerful fronts as direct motivation for Dallas’ trench-focused approach. Booker is the clearest answer to that challenge.

Jerry Jones Sets Expectations

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made clear that performing well in this draft was not optional for the franchise’s 2025 ambitions. “It is a must in the NFL today for a draft class to come in and really carry a lot of the heavy lifting and certainly live up to expectations,” Jones stated. With new head coach Brian Schottenheimer taking over in 2025, this rookie class is being asked to contribute immediately rather than develop quietly from a bench role.

Booker’s Fifth-Year Option Is the Long Game

Beyond the 2025 season, the Cowboys hold a fifth-year option on Tyler Booker’s contract, and cost control matters more now than ever. In March 2026, Dallas restructured the deals of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Smith, Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, and Osa Odighizuwa, clearing approximately $120 million in cap space while pushing Prescott’s 2027 cap hit above $75 million. The rookie contracts from this draft class are the financial cushion that gives Dallas any flexibility at all as that 2027 cap wall closes in. Booker has already signaled his readiness: “I just want to thank the Jones family for taking me and making me a Cowboy. I want to win the Super Bowl and just authentically be me.”
