Another slate has come and went. Let’s look at this week’s biggest fantasy hero and villains.
Boom – Brock Bowers
At this point, is it even a surprise when Brock Bowers over performs? I know 20 fantasy points isn’t the craziest, it’s not even his best performance of the year, but I just wanted to give this man his fantasy flowers. He’s putting up 2023 Sam Laporta numbers, and as someone who drafted him in two leagues, I can’t thank Bowers enough.
This week, he got a whopping 10 receptions for 93 yards. Putting up 20 points without a TD is one thing, and to do so as a tight end is another, more impressive thing. The best thing about it is, there’s no sign of him slowing down. The Raiders just lost Davante Adams, still are starting Minshew, and Brock is an overperforming rookie who is going to continue to get reps. Sure, he had two weeks (3 and 4) where he didn’t have the best of stats, but honestly I think the 15+ point mark is going to be where he stays for the rest of the year.
Bust – Tyreek Hill
Tyreek’s QB situation gets worse and worse by the week. I know it’s not entirely surprising that he’s getting locked up when he’s one of the very few dynamic playmakers on the offensive side of the ball for the Dolphins, but for him to see the same amount of rushes as receptions (a staggering 1) is just insanity.
I really thought this would be a week where the Dolphins’ less than stellar QB room finally found Tyreek, especially against Indy’s less-than-stellar and beat-up secondary, but clearly I was incorrect. Do I think it’s officially time to worry for Tyreek? Honestly, yes. This was his 4th week out of the 6 games the Dolphins have played where he finished with less than 10 fantasy points. With Tyler Huntley leaving early vs. Indy, I don’t think things are getting any brighter for Cheetah.
Boom – Jahmyr Gibbs
In the game of the week, Jahmyr put up an amazing fantasy performance. 112 yards on 15 carries? Check. 4 receptions for another 44 yards? Check. Two TDs? Check. All the markings of a perfect RB fantasy week came into play for Gibbs. Another player who’s consistency is surprising, with the two-headed-monster in Detroit of him and Montgomery, its crazy to see him finish with 16+ points in all but one week (where he still got 12).
Jahmyr’s outlook? I think he’s due for at least one or two more games this year with a performance like this. When he’s been this consistent week after week, it’s almost hard not to expect him to pop off like he did this week again. This is his second game with two TDs, and his third with at least 4 receptions. Jahmyr’s is a dream RB.
Bust – Jameson Williams
Unfortunately, when the Lions offense is firing on all cylinders, sometimes Jameson Williams gets forgotten about. This was one of those weeks. 1 reception for -4 yards was not something I wanted to see in my flex spot. This is his second week where he’s had a rough performance, his last being in Week 3 against the Cardinals.
Like I said earlier, I think usually this comes down to the fact that he doesn’t always fit into the week-by-week scheme for the Lions. This is to be expected with his position in the depth chart, but it makes those weeks where he becomes the favorite target (like Week 1 or Week 4) so much sweeter. I’m not worried about Jameson Williams, he’ll definitely still get a starting spot for me next week.
