Week 1 of preseason is in the books. While we wait for the regular season to begin, cut candidates are doing their best to make the 53-man roster. Every year’s got its preseason darlings, but who did well enough to gain some following? There are some good options and unexpected performers, along with a record-breaking moment. With that being said, let’s take a look at who did best during this week of preseason football.
RB George Holani

With all eyes at Boise State being on Ashton Jeanty, George Holani flew under the radar. He signed with the Seahawks as a UDFA and spent 2024 on the practice squad. Now, he looks to be the favorite for Seattle’s RB3 role following a great performance against Las Vegas. He averaged 8.7 yards on 7 carries and got into the endzone. His score came on a 24-yard burst where he reached a max speed of 19.68 mph.
DE Austin Booker

Chicago’s second-year player had a solid showing during last year’s preseason. He logged nine pressures and 2.5 sacks in four preseason games total, showing promise for a fifth-round pick. Against Miami this weekend, he blew those numbers out of the water. Two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and three sacks. Austin Booker was unstoppable against the Dolphins’ second teamers, completely overwhelming his opponents with his athleticism and prowess.
RB TreVeyon Henderson

Ohio State’s backfield impressed last year, and two of their runners got drafted in the second round. TreVeyon Henderson was considered the more elusive player between him and Quinshon Judkins. He displayed his shiftiness and breakaway speed on his very first NFL touch. The kickoff that he returned for a touchdown went the full length of the field, and he left everyone chasing him in the dust. An additional carry that went 18 yards and 3 catches for 12 capped off his very exciting afternoon.
LT Will Campbell

The man who’ll be blocking up front for Henderson also showed out during his first preseason match. Will Campbell saw 8 pass-blocking snaps against the Commanders. On those 8 snaps, no pressures were recorded against the LSU alum. Furthermore, he did great in the run game, putting multiple defenders on the ground and not stopping until he heard the whistle.
TE Tyler Warren

Tight end was a desperate need for Indianapolis these past few years. It is still the preseason, but Tyler Warren keeps flashing bright at the position. Opposing defenders found it hard to bring him down, with players bouncing off him and struggling to finish their tackles. Additionally, he proved to be valuable as a blocker as well, with great reps in the run.
CB Eric Rogers

All three of New Orleans’ QBs turned the ball over at least once in their game against LA. Jake Haener and Tyler Shough saw their passes picked off by UDFA Eric Rogers. Rogers displayed great anticipation on both interceptions and even took one to the house. Hopefully, the injury he sustained during the match won’t linger, as his performance likely solidified a roster spot.
QB Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders’ 3-touchdown performance was as much of a surprise as his slide to round 5. Cleveland’s QB4 (based on the depth chart) did well against Carolina’s second teamers. He was accurate in the pocket, but was still able to make plays out of it. The pressure that came his way wasn’t able to stop him, as he completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 138 yards.
K Cam Little

It’s strange to put a starting kicker on this list. However, history was made late in the second quarter of the meeting between Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. Second-year kicker Cam Little lined up on his own 40-yard line to kick a record-breaking 70-yard field goal. What’s more shocking than the attempt is that he made it, with a little bit of yardage to spare. Of course, it won’t be put into the record books, but it’s still a sight to see nevertheless.
