Former first-round draft pick quarterback Justin Fields will be playing for his 4th NFL team in 2026. After a few days of rumors surrounding the New York Jets’ trade to the Kansas City Chiefs, the trade became a reality today. The trade gives Justin Fields a fresh start in a healthy team atmosphere with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, and it allows the Jets to free up more salary cap room and acquire an additional 6th round draft pick for the 2027 draft.

The trade between the Jets and Chiefs was confirmed by NFL insider Adam Schefter.

During the 2025 NFL season, Fields started 9 games for the Jets and posted a quarterback rating of 89.5, the second-highest of his NFL career. Before dealing with injuries, Fields completed 128 out of 204 passes for 1,259 yards along with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception. In addition, Fields ran the ball 71 times for 389 yards and scored 4 rushing touchdowns. The Chiefs will use Fields as an insurance policy at quarterback if Patrick Mahomes is unable to play at the start of the 2026 season.

Panthers Trade Andy Dalton to the Eagles

During his 3 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, quarterback Andy Dalton played well as a backup and served as a mentor to Panthers quarterback Bryce Young. However, recently the Panthers indicated that Dalton’s run with Carolina was coming to an end, as they signed former Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett to a 1-year, $7.5 million deal to serve as Young’s backup. That move made Dalton expendable for the Panthers, and now he comes to Philadelphia to once again serve as a mentor quarterback to starter Jalen Hurts and backup Tanner McKee, though that could lead to a trade involving McKee.

The Philadelphia Eagles and GM Howie Roseman obtained Dalton at a low price of a 2027 7th-round draft pick. While the price seems low for a quarterback who could be just a few plays away from leading the offense, what Dalton brings is valuable experience and the ability to manage an offense. In addition, Dalton will serve as a sounding board for Eagles first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
