What makes a team competitive? Is it a dominant defense or a high octane offense? NFL fans will debate that until their blue in the face. What makes an NFL team explosive? Usually an explosive offense is led by a high risk high reward quarterback. Where any given snap could be a 65 yard bomb or an interception at the goal line. Today we’re taking a look at the New York Giants. How they drafted and how they did in free agency. This offense may not lead them to a 13-4 season but could have some crazy high scoring games.
Quarterback:

Let’s start with the leader of the locker rooms, to me the strangest QB room in the NFL right now. As of now listed as QB1 is Jameis Winston. The definition of High Risk High reward. Notorious for his 2019 season where he threw 33 Touchdowns and 30 interceptions. Jameis has a low ceiling overall but will raise the floor in New York. Russel Wilson is next up on the depth chart. Once a Superbowl caliber quarterback. He played his last season in Pittsburgh and led them to the wildcard round of playoffs. His strength lies in stretching the field, specifically throwing dimes outside the hashes. Last year throwing to George Pickens led to some truly impressive throws, bombing it down the field 40-60 yards. Russ is much more consistent than Winston is but they’re both very similar. Middle of the road quarterbacks that can lead to some high octane plays, but have a low ceiling at the end of the day.
Offense

Leading receiver Malik Nabers was a rookie last year getting drafted out of LSU. Nabers wasted no time in showing he was an elite talent and well worth the pick from the Giants. Nabers is most of the reason why this team can be a truly volatile team in the 2025 season. His ability to get up and get the ball while being shifty in his route running is what makes him so dominant. Nabers is explosive and can stretch the field on any given play. Tyrone Tracy Jr was also a rookie running back drafted last year. Getting drafted out of Iowa, Tracy had a bit of a slow start in 2024. However he slowly proved to be a reliable and dependable back. Tracy is a tactical back in the way he finds his hole, and glides through losing almost no speed. Tracy is also very strong in the open field, very shifty and more than adept in pass catching. With the quarterback room in its current state, this offense may be primed for an explosion every play.
Rookies

The New York Giants had a very interesting draft in a good way, first I want to talk about Abdul Carter. Most teams will agree that games are won and lost in the trenches. Carter is a very dominant presence on the line. Joining the likes of Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, and Brian Burns, this lineup is going to make it tough on opposing quarterbacks. Whether Carter joins them at edge or gets pushed back to linebacker. He will be a contender for rookie of the year and make offensive coordinators everywhere sweat. Cam Skattebo was taken in the 4th round by the Giants. Coming out of Arizona State this running back prospect is tough and physical. I believe Skattebo will start this year though he will have to fight for snaps with Tracy and Singletarry. Lastly, the Giants drafted Jaxon Dart out of Ole Miss. A project quarterback by every definition of the word. I don’t have much to say about Dart because it’s a wait and see situation for him. Dart has a big arm, able to get the ball where it needs to be and excels in medium to deep throws. Much like his fellow quarterbacks in the locker room. Dart struggles to process information after the ball is snapped but with some time and reps he may be a very dependable quarterback. Only time will tell. Nonetheless these rookies will add a lot of depth and firepower on offense and defense.
Prediction

As I said in the intro I don’t see the New York Giants going 13-4 and winning their division. The reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles are still strong as ever. The Washington Commanders on the rise showing they can hang with the best, and the Dallas Cowboys hoping to get back to being healthy and competitive. It doesn’t help that on top of this, the Giants are projected to have the hardest schedule this year playing a whopping total of 10 playoff teams. Despite this I can’t wait to see the score totals for these games. Though I only see the Giants going maybe 4-13 on the season I believe they’re games will be fun to watch as this wild card of an offense gets going.
