Since the New York Giants hired former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to lead the organization, Harbaugh has worked to overhaul the team. The New York Giants finished 4-13 in 2025, leading to the firing of former Giants head coach Brian Daboll. What the Giants do have is a nucleus of young players with the potential to become the building blocks that turn the New York franchise into a championship team.

John Harbaugh has established himself as an outstanding NFL head coach who approaches his job as a CEO. Harbaugh has a reputation for building a team culture based on discipline while allowing players and coaches to be free to build a championship team. For Harbaugh to be successful, he needs to build a foundation that will allow the team to climb into a position to compete for an NFC East championship and ultimately win a Super Bowl.

Harbaugh’s first task was to remove the parts of the former New York coaching staff he felt were responsible for the team’s recent lack of success and to remove them from the organization. Consequently, the plan included replacing all of the Giants’ coordinators with coaches that Harbaugh felt he could trust with building a healthier atmosphere for his foundational players, including Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter.

New Coordinators To Build An Elite Giants Team

Offensively, Harbaugh hired former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Nagy’s primary job is to build an offensive system that allows quarterback Jaxon Dart to feel comfortable playing championship football. In addition, Nagy will also be in charge of calling plays for the offense, which was not necessarily the case when he was coaching for Andy Reid with the Chiefs.

Defensively, Harbaugh has hired Dennard Wilson, a former Tennessee Titans defensive backs coach. Similar to Nagy, Wilson will need to build a positive relationship with edge rusher Abdul Carter and build a defensive identity that allows Carter and the other young Giants defenders to take ownership of their unit’s success. Once again, Wilson is getting the freedom to formulate his own plan to build that identity, with Harbaugh trusting Wilson to build a thriving defensive culture.

Harbaugh also chose to bring Chris Horton from his previous coaching staff with the Baltimore Ravens to run the Giants’ special teams. The connecting theme for each of these coordinator hires is a clean slate for the Giants and their young playmakers, and at the same time, Nagy, Wilson, and Horton are coaches that Harbaugh trusts to build his team. Ultimately, Harbaugh’s era with the Giants depends on how well each of these coordinators does their job under the watchful eye of John Harbaugh.
