The Brandon Aiyuk saga in San Francisco appears to be coming to an end. Aiyuk, who is nursing a knee injury sustained last year, has reportedly not been fulfilling his contractual obligations. According to NFL insider Diana Russini, Aiyuk “has failed to attend meetings and declined to participate in other team activities in recent months.” As such, the Niners front office decided to void his guaranteed money for 2026. While Aiyuk’s antics regarding his unfulfilled contractual responsibilities may raise some concerns, his talent is undeniable. His breakout 1342 receiving yard season led to him being the story of the 2024 off-season. Now, just fifteen months after San Fran locked him up for another four years, Aiyuk will either be traded away or straight up released. The question is, who will he be playing for once he’s healthy? Here are some of his best fits.
New York Giants

It’s too soon to crown Jaxon Dart as the next Eli Manning, but the small sample size we have so far of the Ole Miss product is quite encouraging. 1417 yards and ten touchdowns in seven games with just three interceptions should not be overlooked. That string of seven games also includes a 283 yard performance against Denver’s ferocious defense. Dart already has his number one option at receiver in Malik Nabers, but this should not dissuade New York’s FO from pursuing a better option at number two. The Giants were adamant about adding a pass catcher through a trade prior to the deadline. Reportedly, Jaylen Waddle was the primary target, but those plans fell through. Now, New York’s got a chance at bolstering up the receiving core for their young signal caller by bringing in Aiyuk.
Washington Commanders

Moving on to another team in the NFC East, there’s a lot of connections between the Commanders and Aiyuk. To begin with, the club’s GM, Adam Peters, was part of San Francisco’s leadership group when they drafted the receiver. Couple that with the close friendship that Washington QB Jayden Daniels has with Aiyuk from their time together at Arizona State, an attempt at a reunion feels inevitable. There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Commanders receiving room. Star wideout Terry McLaurin is on the wrong side of 30, and been sidelined for most of the year. Deebo Samuel, Aiyuk’s former teammate in the bay area, is on the last year of his contract. With this ambiguity and the potential instant connection between Daniels and Aiyuk, it feels perfect for Washington.
Tennessee Titans

Cam Ward’s rookie year continues the trend of misfortune for first overall picks in their initial season. You can name any issue, whether it be coaching malpractice, turnstile offensive line or a lack of weapons, and it more than likely applies to the Titans. Specifically, Tennessee’s lack of playmakers at receiver is hindering Ward’s development. Sure, rookies Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor have shown flashes. However, a proven vet like Aiyuk could do wonders for the former Hurricane. Add that on with the fact that the Titans are set to have 117 million dollars in 2026 cap space, Tennessee seems like a likely location for Aiyuk.
New England Patriots

When rumors floated around him being a target for the Pats in 2024, Aiyuk reportedly hesitated to join the Patriots. With the state of disarray that the franchise was in, his decision to stay in San Francisco makes sense. Now though, It feels like New England’s appeal is increasing by the day. That is thanks in large part to the contributions of HC Mike Vrabel, and the rise of Drake Maye. Maye is playing at an MVP caliber level, which is why the evil empire has risen again. The Patriots receiving room is by no means deficient. Kayshon Boutte, Stefon Diggs and others form a good core for their offense. However, adding Aiyuk to the equation will undoubtedly elevate their attack to another level. Perhaps New England stays pat and moves forward with their group, but the prospect of Aiyuk catching balls from Maye sounds too good to pass up.
Kansas City Chiefs

From a past dynasty to a present one, the Chiefs are another team that could gain benefit from Aiyuk’s services. Granted, their current receiving room is pretty solid overall. The speed of Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thorton mixed with the veteran presence of Hollywood Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster is a serviceable array of weapons for Mahomes to work with. Regardless, if KC were to pursue Brandon Aiyuk, it could help that group evolve into something much better. If he were with the team today, in that room Aiyuk would have the most potential to be the true number one threat. The connection between Mahomes and Aiyuk would be a fun one to watch, and could definitely help the Chiefs in the long run.
