With the draft over, most teams have set their rosters for 2025. However, a lot of NFL teams still have holes in their roster at positions of need. There are still a lot of talented players on the marked that can provide depth at key positions. Here are 5 free agents that still help a team win a Super Bowl in 2025.
All stats were sourced from Pro Football Reference unless noted otherwise.
RB JK Dobbins

2024 Stats: 13 G, 195 Rush, 905 Yards, 4.6 YPA, 9 TD
Dobbins flashed a lot of talent during his time in Baltimore, but injuries limited to him to just 24 out of 64 games in 4 years. The Chargers took a chance on him last year despite his injury concerns, and he responded by breaking out with his most productive season in the NFL. Despite this, Dobbins now finds himself without a home, as the Chargers replaced him with the tandem of Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton. Dobbins showed he can contribute above-average production from the running back position, and a team should pick him up as part of a running back committee that can utilize his power rushing ability.
Fits: Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers
WR Tyler Boyd

2024 Stats: 16 G, 39 Rec, 390 Yards, 10.0 YPC, 0 TD
Tyler Boyd was once a pivotal WR3 with the Cincinnati Bengals, posting 2 1000 yard seasons before seeing his production decline with the additions of Jamarr Chase and Tee Higgins. In his first season outside of Cincy, Boyd struggled along with the rest of the Titans offense, posting the lowest numbers of his career since 2017, where he only played 10 games. However, the underlying metrics, specifically his Catch%, showed that he was still producing at the same rate as his Bengals days. Teams needing slot wide receiver help should look at Boyd as an intriguing bounce back candidate at a low price.
Fits: Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers
OG Brandon Scherff

2024 Stats: 17 G, 74.5 Pass Block Grade, 0 Sacks Allowed, 57.3 Run Block Grade (PFF)
A 5-time Pro Bowler, Brandon Scherff has provided teams with steady guard play for a long time in the NFL. However, due to his age, the Jaguars declined to bring him back for the 2025 season. Scherff is still a very solid pass protector, ranking 53rd out of 126 qualifying guards according to PFF. He also limits penalties, only committing 2 in 2024. The team that signs Scherff is going to value his experience and leadership along the offensive trenches.
Fits: Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins
EDGE Jadeveon Clowney

2024 Stats: 14 Games, 5.5 Sacks, 9 TFL, 44 Pressures
A former number 1 overall pick, Clowney has acted as a mercenary run stopper for 6 teams in his career. Clowney started his career in Houston, then bounced around Seattle, Tennessee, Cleveland, and Baltimore before recently being cut by the Panthers. While he never truly reached his potential as a pass rusher, he is still adequate in the role. More importantly, he sets the edge well against the run and hasn’t really shown any signs of decline at 31 years old. Clowney represents a low-risk option for a team looking for rotational edge depth.
Fits: Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks
CB Asante Samuel Jr.

2024 Stats: 4 Games, 2 PD, 87.3 Passer Rating Allowed
Before a shoulder injury prematurely ended his 2024 season, Samuel was projected to have a key role in Jesse Minter’s defense. Critically, he is only 25 years old as well, so in theory he has not hit his prime yet. He racked up 6 interceptions in his 3 healthy seasons with the Chargers, and showed real ability to play in zone coverage schemes. If teams are not scared off by the injury, they can add a young and promising corner with real upside to upgrade their secondary. Every team could use a player like Asante Samuel Jr.
Fits: Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings
